Jumpstart Guitar
Finally, an approach to egistrations now open for Winter/Spring 2026. Limited spaces available.
This is not your typical guitar lesson or online course. Here are just two of the major things that sets Kev’s method apart:
The “secret keys”
Most people struggle to learn an instrument because they never discover the "secret keys" to getting their mind and body to cooperate and coordinate to actually make music. They might learn to plunk out a few chords or riffs, but fail to get to where it all sounds—and feels—like music
Kev breaks down—in minute detail—those crucial, make-or-break elements of playing an instrument that other courses, methods, and teachers overlook. Through three decades of research and development, he's created a foolproof method that can unlock the musicality in just about anyone.
Radical efficiency: practice one-minute-a-day
In the beginning stages, you need daily practice (or close to it) to build the neuromuscular connections involved in playing an instrument. But here's the good news: Kev's students learn to play guitar (or any instrument) in as little as one minute per day.
Literally 60 seconds.
It sounds unbelievable, but Kev has seen this work for hundreds of students. If, at least 5 days per week, you can practice for less time than you spend brushing your teeth, Kev guarantees immediate and sustained progress. Of course, it has to be a really solid minute, so Kev distills each lesson into hyper-focused videos to guide your daily practice sessions and make sure you’re on track to becoming musical on your instrument.
Who it’s for?
For anyone just getting started—or restarting—their journey with the guitar. Whether you're a total beginner who's never touched the instrument, or someone who tried learning before but it didn't work out, this course will give you the broadest and most solid foundation possible. New learners get the best possible introduction, while those who previously struggled will break bad habits and get the fresh start they need to progress.
What will you learn
You'll get a solid grounding in all the basics—the things most guitarists know across nearly every style you can think of: single-note melodies and riffs, open-position chords, power chords, barre chords, and essential strumming and picking techniques and patterns.
By the end of the course, you'll have the foundation you need to:
- Enjoy playing the guitar musically
- Teach yourself new songs using chord charts, tabs, videos, etc.
- Write your own songs
- Play with others
- Join/start a band
- Achieve world peace (OK, maybe not yet. But Kev is working on it…)
What sets Kev’s approach apart is:
- How deeply he digs into the small but decisive details of guitar technique that most courses, methods, and teachers fail to address.
- How he creates short, laser-focused videos to guide your practice and allow you to make progress in as little as one minute per day.
What is the course format?
You will be part of a small cohort that meets weekly with Kev on Zoom. Kev will go over that week’s lesson and give personalized feedback to each student. To support your practicing, Kev will supply you with short, focused demonstration videos to help you make sure you are actually practicing the right things in the right way. These videos will be accessible on a private website accessible only to the students, where you can also access any written documents and archived recordings and transcripts of past lessons.
What size are the groups?
Kev has found that small groups of up to 5 students strikes a perfect balance, allowing him to give personalized and specific feedback to each student, while creating a dynamic community where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It often happens, for example, that a certain student might have a problem, question, or insight that wouldn’t have occurred to the others, but that everyone can learn from. It also fosters a sense of community and accountability which can be crucial for making sure those precious minutes of practice get done!
What equipment do I need?
- A steel-stringed acoustic or electric guitar in playable condition. A nylon-stringed (i.e. classical) guitar can work in a pinch, depending on the size of your hands (these have wider necks that can make certain aspects of chording more difficult for those with shorter fingers).
- An amplifier, if you have an electric guitar.
- A Zoom-ready computer or tablet, webcam, built-in or external microphone, and decent internet connection. Wired (non-bluetooth) headphones suggested but not required.
What if I want private lessons?
The group lesson format works really well for most beginning students. If you are more advanced, want to dig into one specific style or technique, or otherwise feel you could benefit from 1-on-1 lessons with Kev, he has a limited number of private slots available. Click here to book a trail lesson.
Power-up Guitar
Who it’s for?
For those who've already learned a few basic songs but still feel like they're struggling to play musically. Maybe you always feel a little "behind" when playing along with recordings or with others. Your fretting hand panics and misses half the chords. Your strumming feels clunky and forced. Or you've been playing the same two songs on repeat, and the subtly disapproving stare of your partner or roommate tells you it's time to expand your repertoire. Whether you want to play around the campfire or start a band, you know you could—and should—be better than this.
Acoustic or electric guitar?
Either/both
What will you learn
You’ll learn how to build control and assurance in your fretting-hand, develop a solid sense of rhythm and groove in your picking hand (and your whole body in fact!), discover the expressive potential of dynamics and articulations, and how to coordinate all this to really feel like you’re inside the music.
